Introduction to the Process of Making Mazoul Berber Rugs

The creation of Mazoul Berber rugs is a meticulous and time-honored craft passed down through generations of skilled artisans. Rooted in the rich cultural heritage of the Berber people, each rug is woven by hand using natural materials and traditional techniques. The process starts with sourcing premium wool from sheep raised in the Atlas Mountains, followed by hand-spinning, dyeing with natural pigments, and finally weaving on a loom. Every step reflects the artistry and dedication that goes into preserving the authenticity of these unique, handcrafted pieces.

Sourcing Wool: The wool used by our Berber weavers comes from live sheep raised in the Atlas Mountains. These sheep are sheared once a year in the spring using scissors.
Cleaning and Carding: The high-quality wool is washed and carded to remove impurities, ensuring it is clean and ready for use.
Hand-Spinning: The wool is then spun by hand by Berber weavers, forming it into skeins for weaving.
Natural Dyeing: Colored wool is often dyed using natural dyes derived from plant or mineral sources.
Weaving: Many Berber women still use traditional wooden looms to hand- weave these beautiful rugs.
Washing and Sun Drying: Depending on the region, the rugs are washed multiple times and dried under the sun to enhance their texture.
Finishing Touches: The wool is trimmed with scissors to ensure an even finish before preparing the rugs for their new homes.
Packaging and Delivery: The Berber rugs are carefully packed and made ready for delivery to beautify your interiors.
